The Department of English came into being in 2016 at GDC Kamand. The Department lays emphasis on imparting learning to the students in a manner that hones their communicative skills and critical thinking. The Department has carved a niche for itself due to its constant yearning for pursuit of excellence .The number of seats is limited to 80 and it offers only under graduate course. Presently, almost 50 students come from the remote areas and are acquiring the knowledge in the field of English Literature.

There are variegated Novels, Auto-Biography of Noble Persons, Dramas, Glossary of Literary Terms available in the College Library. Through the Novels and Autobiography, both the students and readers get mental stimulation, stress reduction, vocabulary expansion and better writing skills etc. Most of the Passed out students of the college are pursuing MA English while some of them are pursuing MPhil and PhD. Some students are working in government sector as well as in private sector. The Department wish all students bright future ahead.

राजकीय महाविद्यालय पुरोला-उत्तरकाशी का हिन्दी विभाग वर्ष 2016 में अस्तित्व में आया। हिन्दी विभाग को स्थापित करने का मुख्य उद््देश्य छात्रा-छात्राओं में हिन्दी भाषा एवं साहित्य के अध्ययन एवं आस्वादन के साथ ही उसके समकालिक रूप से तादात्म्य स्थापित करना भी है। महाविद्यालय के हिन्दी विभाग में परंपरागत पाठ्यक्रमों के साथ-साथ छात्र-छात्राओं के कौशल अभिवृद्धि संबंधी पाठ्यक्रमों पर भी दृष्टि केंद्रित की गई है।

हिन्दी भाषा में उत्कृष्ट दक्षता विकसित करने के लिए हिन्दी विभाग निम्न उद्देश्यों के लिए सतत् प्रयासरत् है-
Ø छात्र-छात्राओं के पढ़ने और लिखने के कौशल में सुधार करना।
Ø प्रभावी ढंग से बोलने और संवाद करने के निमित्त हिन्दी के माध्यम से वक्तृत्व क्षमता का विकास करना।
Ø व्यवहारिक संप्रेषण के उद्देश्य से भाषा का प्रभावी ढंग से उपयोग करने और तथा उन्हें सोचने और भाषा में विचारांे, भावनाओं को व्यक्त करने की क्षमता का विकसित करना।
Ø साहित्यिक अभिव्यक्ति के सभी रूपों का विश्लेषण, व्याख्या और मूल्यांकन करने के लिए छात्र-छात्राओं की क्षमता को सुदृढ़ करना।
Ø छात्र-छात्राओें को उनकी भाषा-बोली, समाज एवं संस्कृति के प्रति जागरुक बनाना।

Department of History

History plays an important role in the preservation of social and human values alongside the cultural and historical heritage of the society and the nation. The Department of History is one of the important functioning Departments in Government Degree College Kamand. It was started in the college from the year 2016. Presently there are many students studying in the college at UG level. The aim of the Department is to develop a multidisciplinary approach with creative skill in students and create an engaging and good academic atmosphere for the students. For the past 4 years, the Department has visited with students from important and archaeological sites of the area, through which the students have increased their interest in local history.

Department is also working on the local and folk culture in Higher Himalayan Society. Faculty of the Department has also done various documentaries on regional and folk culture. Faculty also presented two important programs on DD National or Prasar Bharti Dehradun on the topic of Higher Himalayas Architecture, dresses and ornaments which are available on You Tube.

The department was established in the year of 2016 at UG level. This department is committed to impart quality based education to the students of the region.

This department also provide the knowledge to its students to make them better citizen for the nation and society also. And to introduce them about the national and global problems not only in the field of political but in all walks of life. There are 60 seats in UG level approved by the HNB GarhwalUniversity with the course running in CBCS from the year 2015. There are 80 seats approved by the Sri DevSuman University. The first batch is being conducted under the semester system from the year of 2018.

The vision of the department is to provide advance knowledge and the right kind of leadership in all aspect of life.

The Department of Sociology of Govt. Degree College, Kamand was established in 2016 with undergraduate teaching programme. The semester system has been introduced in session 2015-16.The admissions are on the merit basis. The department is committed to impart quality based education to the students of the region. It also provides latest information and knowledge to its students to make them more aware with social phenomena not only in the field of Sociology but in all walks of life.

Faculty is sincerely engaged in active interaction with students as the objective is to explore and inculcate the high talents in the student of hill area and make them developed in all aspect of life through various academic programmes. The department has an enriched library with social as well as contemporary issues books. We actively try to enhance the knowledge, wisdom and understanding by teaching and research.

The students of Sociology participate actively in all kind of activities of college and serve their best up to next level.The motive of faculty is to shape up their students as excellent as possible and explore their hidden talents in front of our society.
